For My BoyBoy...

Last week was a hard one.

Alitta & I had to say goodbye to a cherished member of our family.

We had to send our sweet baby Rico over the rainbow bridge.

We opened our home to foster a different cat, when Rico came into our lives and jumped right into Alitta's lap after she unzipped his carrier to give him a simple hello pat.

He stayed instead.

He was in our home for just a couple of weeks until we decided to adopt him in the summer of 2019. He warmed up to us quickly and after a few weeks he was already cuddling with us.

We looked up cat breeds and we found he was a Turkish Van. They're so much alike in feature and demeanor. And quite beautiful.

After a trip to Hawaii we came home and lock down happened because of Corona.

Rico helped fill our days with love and fun. We all spent so many hours together making memories.

We were fine.

But last year he started having short breathing attacks and we thought it might be allergies or asthma.

We spent the summer monitoring him after visiting the vet and starting him on Claritin.

He had a weird collapsing reaction we assumed was from medicine, so stopped the meds, but soon we discovered our little boy had heart failure and it was rather progressed.

The doctor gave him 6 to 12 months in October 2022.

We spent every moment possible at home with our boy dedicating our days to giving him good healthy food, pharmaceutical and complimentary naturopathic medicines, as many treats as he'd like.

And his most favorite thing of all - daily brushings. He loved it. He was addicted. He asked for it a few times a day. We gave him sessions that were 10, 15, 20 minutes long, and he wanted more!

Cat hair was everywhere.

He seemed fine. We thought he'd go on for years.

But he breathed hard. And something wasn't quite right.

The last month he was hit hard with more assaults more often, for longer. Everyone assured us we were making the right choice for all of us.

We know we did the best for him, but miss his presence everyday.

New cards from friends & those who knew him bring fresh tears, every time we read them.

It was an honor to be his cat daddy.

Put up some Fresh Tunes in his memory.

If you like photos of happy cats, we made him an Instagram of his happy life.

We'll miss you my BoyBoy.
